2007 (SJ <-> Monterey Tour)
2007 Tour
Location: San Jose -> Capitola -> Monterey -> Capitola -> San Jose
Dates: Thursday, June 21st through Sunday, June 24th
Well that was fun! I think you could say the theme of the tour this year was "Jazz Hands". Don't know what Jazz Hands are? Well let me tell you, while not quite as fun as drinking good beer and wine, Jazz Hands maybe the most fun you can have standing up and waving your hands around.
Tim (the Jazz Hands Sensei) and Carl doing Jazz Hands perilously close to the fire (don't try this at home kids!)
Note that Tim's headlamp is on for safety.
Note that in a pinch Jazz Hands may also be done sober
Here we are at the start of the ride in Los Gatos. Clockwise from the upper left: Camille, Tim, Carl, and Marlon
Before going to the campsite, we stopped at a couple of wineries in Capitola. Armida and White Crane. We tasted most everything and bought a couple of cases between us, of which we took only several bottles back to the campsite with us. You know our motto: Safety first!
We stayed at New Brighton State Beach after Day 1 and Day 3 rides. It's a very popular beach and getting a Saturday night reservation in the summer is difficult. They have a hiker/biker campsite that doesn't need reservations, but we like our own campfire and picnic table.
Here we are in Watsonville next to an enormous strawberry field. At least Camille and Carl stole a few strawberries. Not for me though. I can't eat on an empty stomach.
We ate at The Whole Enchilada both on the way to and from Monterey. This is in Moss Landing. We started with sangrias and moved on to food from there. The name of this place reminds me of a Chinese diner I saw in Ireland called Slow Boat.
Some fisherman humor on a boat in a marina across the street from The Whole Enchilada. There was a big sea otter there wowing a crowd. I think he was pissed when no one threw him a fish. I didn't have one handy.
This is me cruising into Monterey with my convertible bike in the upright position. Do you think my trailer makes my butt look big?
It goes without saying that the bike path into Monterey is one of the most beautiful on the California coast.
Here we are in Los Gatos for the end-of-trip Jazz Hands finale.
